TWOLIPS TURNS DISCONNECTION INTO DISTORTION ON “PPL R”

TwoLips, the project of Kianah LongChase, doesn’t fit into a single genre. Her music blends alternative rock, rap, and other influences, but what matters most is the approach she takes to her songs.

Her identity as a Black and Indigenous woman and her upbringing in New Mexico are present in both her writing and the themes she explores.

As the first single from her upcoming album, “DIE ON EVERY HILL,” “PPL R” carries a high energy, with distorted guitars and a rhythm that feels unstable. It aims to capture the discomfort of modern relationships and the difficulty of maintaining connections in a time when everything feels disposable.

The lyrics focus on the process of understanding who the people around us really are. This is conveyed through an honest perspective that avoids drama and instead reflects on relationships that shift or fall apart. There are also references to family conflict and a broader sense of disconnection.

At the same time, the song touches on the pressure to be perfect and how that can end up holding people back. TwoLips suggests that trying to meet every expectation can leave you stuck and unable to move forward.

Musically, “PPL R” is rooted in a sound reminiscent of ‘90s alternative rock, but with a current edge. Lightfoot’s restrained production keeps the focus on TwoLips’ voice and lyrics, a philosophy that carries directly into the visuals, where the music video mirrors the same sense of relationships left undefined and unresolved.

“PPL R” builds on TwoLips’ multidisciplinary foundation, arriving as the latest chapter in a career that has already reached SXSW and international stages, while pointing toward a debut album that expands her scope rather than defines it.
