For over a decade, Daniel Furlong has navigated the fashion industry as one of Mexico’s first androgynous/non-binary model, confronting a culture steeped in machismo and the rejection of femininity. In an industry that polices the fine line between “artistic” and “vulgar,” Furlong exposes a deep-seated hypocrisy: nudity is celebrated when exploited for profit, yet shamed when embraced for personal agency and pleasure.

Tracing the roots of “vulgarity” back to colonial impositions, this editorial dismantles the religious and political tools used to sanitize the human experience. In pre-Hispanic America, sexuality was sacred, a ritual of connection and healing. Today, we confront the modern contradiction of censorship and exploitation.

This project is more than a visual documentation; it is a reclamation. By capturing the vulnerability of nudity and the sanctity of the human body without judgment, Furlong challenges us to realize a fundamental truth: “As long as censorship exists, we will never truly be free”.
