Alemeda packed a pop-rock punch this Saturday night at Brooklyn’s Music Hall of Williamsburg. With support from Community Chapstick and Rakiyah, this show marked the third and biggest night of the But Where The Hell Should I Go Tour, her first multi-city headlining tour. LADYGUNN has had a front row seat to Alemeda’s rising star last year, from Lollapalooza to All Things Go as well as our feature with her in December.
Excitement for the show was at a 10 after the release of her newest single “Broken Record” which my best friend and I were screaming-singing in Times Square on the afternoon of the concert, the first 45 degree day all winter we had before the blizzard. Having spent my teen years at New Jersey pop-punk shows, Alemeda’s music brings out my inner child, but the version of her that has stopped centering the male gaze and has gone through serious reflections around past friendships, family, and over-all societal expectations placed upon young women.

Alemeda Army is a colorful crowd of joy and rage, head banging along with her from songs like “1-800 F*CK YOU” to “Already Dug Your Grave.” We got to learn even more about her, as she shared more about her songwriting in between songs, which was heavily inspired by her Sudani background and growing up within the male gaze. She also revealed that she is a TRIPLE Sagittarius!
Other highlights from the set included her collaborations with Rachel Chinoriri and Doechii on “Chamelion” and “Beat A Bitch Up,” reminding me how great of an era we’re in with music. How so many young women my age are fusing genre and their artistry. While it may be so confusing to be a girl, singer-songwriters like Alemeda help me process my own girlhood.

You can catch her on the But Where The Hell Should I Go Tour through 2/26 in Los Angeles.
