It’s been a quiet while for Olive Louise since 2021’s “Nothing’s The Same” dropped and we’ve been eagerly awaiting new music from her since. The wait is thankfully over, now that a brand new single is out, and it’s everything we hoped and more:

Simply put, Olive Louise’s “The Loveliest” is an ode to love itself more so than it is just a love song. It seeks to capture the chemical cocktail blend of emotions into a melody structured as a whimsical indie pop tune with folkish hints. The end result strides that line where nervous giddiness and longing meet with reassurance and bliss to produce a state of being that not only makes us feel alive, it also makes us glad to *be* alive.

“My life before you

It feels like a memory

I found my Very best friend”

This impassioned yet zephyr-like new single comes from an understandably blissful place, as it was co-written with Marky Style during a stay at an AirBnB. When asked about it, Olive says of the track: “It was awesome putting into a song how much I love the person I’m with and plan on being with forever. I think it’s relatable because it’s how anyone that’s really in love feels, like, this person is amazing and you have your own language with them, and that feeling is universal.”

When you call a song “simple”, it can often be taken as a negative trait, however, I’m a firm believer that simplicity can -more often than not- signify a certain brilliance. Not everything has to be protracted behind layers of metaphors and figures of speech, and sometimes the most effective way of connecting with your audience is to genuinely say what you mean in the most vulnerable way possible, which seems to suit Olive just fine, especially with songs like these in which candid emotion and saying things in no uncertain terms is the whole point and inspiration behind the music.

Everything about this song makes it feel like it’s about finally being certain that you can say it all without fear of anything. There’s no embarrassment, no pretense, and no need to keep any guards or barriers; it’s all about celebrating the love you share with your significant other and the realization that this person with whom you plan on building a life together needs to hear these truths that have formed in your heart.
