Blytheville, Arkansas, was not an easy place to grow up, and LG Malique knows that firsthand. The streets and a difficult personal environment pushed him toward music, where he began writing verses shaped by pain and performing them anywhere he could, partly as catharsis, but also as a form of escape. Eventually, Atlanta became both a home and a much bigger stage.

His 2024 remake of “Seven Years” by Lukas Graham went viral, surpassing 35 million streams and attracting attention from tastemakers and music news outlets. That track introduced his music to a broader audience while reinforcing the personal mindset behind “Living Gold,” a perspective shaped by resilience and hardship.

Following the earlier releases of “Living Gold” and “Carved in Gold,” Malique closes the trilogy with “Rose Gold.” While the earlier projects carried a heavier emotional tension, this new chapter feels more settled and introspective. Fatherhood and personal stability reshape the record’s emotional center, giving the EP a calmer and more reflective atmosphere.

The record is filled with unexpected stylistic turns. “Story Goes On” opens with aquatic synths reminiscent of early ’90s jazz fusion, while the following track leans into moody prog-style riffs. Later, the breezy, fusion-inspired intro of “10 Out of 10,” featuring Toosii, paints a vivid picture of romantic devotion and domestic stability.

The synth-driven production balances gritty textures with uplifting melodies, while softer moments reveal the emotional vulnerability behind songs about commitment and lasting relationships. Throughout the EP, modern hip-hop blends seamlessly with elements of pop, jazz, and fusion.

Across these nine songs, “Rose Gold” provides a thoughtful conclusion to the themes introduced throughout the trilogy. The EP feels warmer and more grounded than its predecessors while still carrying the emotional weight that defines LG Malique’s songwriting. At its core, the record reflects on the emotional work involved in sustaining intimacy over time.
