New York City singer-songwriter Leo Sawikin is set to release his new EP, “The Edge of Everything,” in early 2026. This project marks his second collaboration with producer Phil Ek, known for his work with The Shins and Fleet Foxes. The new EP represents a significant sonic shift for Leo, incorporating new collaborators like drummer Max Yassky and his brother, William Sawikin, on synths, to craft a grittier and more expansive soundscape.
This upcoming release follows the success of his 2024 album, “Till You’re Somebody Else,” the title track of which reached #1 on the Mediabase A/C Independent Artists Chart. The album also features his most-streamed track to date, “The Same Mistakes.” Leo spent much of 2024 supporting this album by touring extensively and opening for Jon McLaughlin across the country. He recently turned this road experience into a live EP, featuring select tracks from both his upcoming and previous records.
As part of his upcoming EP, “Where I’m Running” is Leo’s latest release, reflecting the grittier, more expansive sound he has been developing with his collaborators. In this track, Leo delivers his signature tune with a notably chill and easygoing melody. From the first moment, the song is welcoming, boasting strong, soaring vocals and an irresistible rhythm. The production quality is also remarkably strong, with every instrument meticulously complementing the others.
“Where I’m Running” feels like a compelling mix of the vocal depth of Phil Collins, the energetic, jangly British style of The Smiths, and the introspective, synth-driven lyrics of Depeche Mode. While Leo’s style is reminiscent of these bands, it remains distinctly unique, showcasing a brighter, more expansive energy than his earlier tracks.
“The song is about wanting to escape an easy life for something more exciting and dangerous,” Leo shares. “The song started with a riff idea I had and came together really quickly compared to a lot of other things I’ve written.”
With “Where I’m Running,” Leo Sawikin offers another essential look into “The Edge of Everything,” a project that is shaping up to turn deep reflection into a thrilling journey toward the unknown.
