In “Midnight Microdose Vol. 2,” Kevin Ross fearlessly delves into the complexities of toxic relationships. He confronts the pain, confusion, and self-discovery that come with navigating these challenging dynamics, providing a relatable and cathartic experience. Within the EP, Ross embraces the darkness and shadows that exist within the human experience. He fearlessly confronts the inner demons that often plague individuals, shedding light on the internal battles we all face. Through his music, Ross encourages listeners to embrace these darker aspects of themselves, fostering self-acceptance and growth. Ross’ music reminds us that transformation often occurs when we step outside of our comfort zones and explore the unknown. From start to finish, you’ll be immersed in Ross’ atmosphere of relentless riffs and thunderclap percussion, woven with lush beats and intoxicating vocals tormented with emotion.
“If I had to sum up Midnight Microdose Vol. 2 in one word it would be, DRAMATIC. I love sequencing my projects whether to create a flow, set a vibe, tell a story, or all three at once. Excited for people to uncover another layer of my artistry with this project,” confides Kevin Ross.
We have six exciting songs on this EP. Starting with “Ain’t Mine” our introduction is an incredible R&B-infused tune. With Kevin’s seductive voice, it is a marvelous way to start our listening experience. The first highlight is “Animalistic,” which brings to the surface the wild, primal nature within each of us. Ross expresses himself with raw authenticity. It’s a track that leans to pop while remaining true to his R&B roots, Ross spins a web of infectious riffs, melodramatic piano accents, and ravenous beats. With a story about chasing our desires and giving in to them, “Animalistic” will transport you through a jungle of self-discovery and leave you breathless. We’re back with pure undiluted R&B in “New Lows.” Kevin’s vocals soar as he croons about the emotional highs and lows of life. The production is minimal but effective, creating a soundscape that captures the chaotic emotions of the song. “Found Me” is a perfect proof of Ross’ signature R&B and pop blend. With strong beats and a catchy chorus, it’s a song that will be stuck in your head all day. His vocals are smooth and powerful, creating a magical atmosphere that will leave you wanting more. The second highlight of the EP is coming right up! With a music video featuring the iconic Eric Bellinger and exclusively premiered on BET Soul, we have “Ready For It.” It opens with a bedroom vignette that sets the stage for the sublime and flirtatious track. It’s a rollercoaster of imagination, excitement, and allure as he crafts a series of texts for an enigmatic romantic interest.
Last but not least, Kevin delivers a whooping 10-minute track to wrap up everything. “MM V2 (The Flow Through)” is a fantastic culmination of the EP. We are presented with a powerful track that wraps up the story and leaves us wanting more. It almost feels like an amalgamation of everything Ross’ has presented so far and I couldn’t ask for a better way to end this magnificent EP.
His name will go down in history as the first-ever independent artist with two charting singles in the top 20 on Billboard’s Adult R&B Airplay at once. With the release of “Midnight Microdose Vol. 2,” Kevin Ross continues to solidify his status as an R&B icon. His work provides a relatable and thought-provoking experience. The EP is a testament to Ross’ artistic evolution and serves as proof of his ability to capture audiences with his unique blend of soulful R&B and pop.
