Honey Bxby Is All Grit and Grace in This Raw and Real Interview

Straight out of New Jersey with a voice as sharp as her pen, Honey Bxby is carving her own lane in R&B. Though she officially began releasing music in 2019, her connection to songwriting runs deep. “Raw Honey,” her debut EP under Warner Records, offers a fearless dive into the layers of her womanhood. The project flows between psychedelic softness and bossed-up confidence, from the explosive chaos of “Left Eye” to the aching vulnerability of “Broken Mirrors,” which she calls her most personal track to date.

As Honey Bxby continues to rise, one thing is clear: she’s here to be real. “Raw Honey” is an introduction to a multifaceted artist who isn’t afraid to feel deeply, speak loudly, and own every part of her journey. Whether she’s breaking hearts or healing her own, Honey Bxby reminds us that vulnerability and power can—and should—coexist. And if this is just the beginning, we can’t wait to see where her rawness takes her next.

Throughout our conversation, Honey Bxby speaks with the same unfiltered honesty as a reminder that being a woman means being powerful and heartbroken, confident and confused, and sometimes all at once.

Let’s start with a brief review of your career. When and how did you start in the world of music?

Since I was a baby, I’ve been into making music and singing. But I didn’t start releasing music until 2019. I told myself that when I graduated from high school, I’d start to take it seriously and pursue my career.

You’ve said your father, a producer, helped unlock your songwriting skills early on. Can you share a moment from your upbringing that shaped how you write today?

I can’t think of an exact moment that helped shape my writing, but when I can’t express myself by speaking directly, I revert to music. It’s so much easier writing about it and singing about it rather than talking about certain things.

You describe yourself as “a rapper in a singer’s body.” How has that shaped your identity in the R&B world?

Yesss, that ‘rapper in a singer’s body’ thing definitely helps set me apart. My personality, the way I sing, the melodies I choose, even my stage presence, all have this energy that’s not your typical R&B. Even the way I move on stage and express myself, it’s got more of that raw, bold energy. I’m emotional, but I’m also fearless with it. That really shaped how I carry myself as an artist.

From posting covers to opening for artists like Sexyy Red and Flyana Boss, how would you describe the evolution from 2023 to now?

My confidence has definitely shot through the roof since then. My voice, stage presence, and music have gotten stronger. The growth is definitely crazy! A lot more people know my music, and it’s insanely amazing.

Now let’s talk about your EP “Raw Honey,” which is a striking title—equal parts sweet and unfiltered. Why did you choose that name? What does it say about where you are emotionally and artistically at this moment?

I chose the title because the project is definitely a reflection of who I am. Unfiltered, bold, carefree, open, and honest. Which is also where I’m at with my music and artistry. That’s Raw Honey.

What can you say about this project in terms of the sound? What was your vision when building the soundscape of this EP? Because it has psychedelic vibes and high boss energy.

I definitely say the sound is BOLD! When building the EP, being a little bit more open-minded as well as open with who I am was the vision.

I love “Left Eye” because we hear rage, heartbreak, and full-blown chaos. “This the last time you call me bitch I’ma show you what crazy is.” It’s a song of catharsis. What did it mean to you?

Left Eye to me is THE anthem. It perfectly embodied that feeling when someone keeps playing in your face with your emotions and gets you to that point! To me, it means don’t fuck with me.

“Broken Mirrors” captures that lost feeling—“Room full of people, never feeling safe.” What can you tell us about this track?

“Broken Mirrors” is THE most vulnerable track on the project. Just explaining the war I have with myself sometimes, the feeling of loneliness, and how I felt when I was at my lowest, dealing with mental health challenges. This song holds a special place in my heart and means the most to me. This one is personal.

I feel it’s a perfect album to empower many women, but without losing sight of human vulnerability. Any message for women who listen to “Raw Honey”?

I just want people to know that I’m just a girl. I go through a roller coaster of emotions. I get in sticky situations; I have mental fights with myself. I get happy, I get sad, angry, and confused, just like everyone else. Raw Honey is a project that embraces every layer of being a woman: the strength, the heartbreak, the confidence, the doubt. I didn’t hold anything back. With Raw Honey, I want people to feel all that energy, all at once. Embrace it and embrace themselves.
