Bold, cynical, and unapologetically reactive, “HITS ALL OVER YOUR FACE [The Peace Bisquit Collection]” makes its entrance. The double EP brings together 30 tracks from queer rapper Cazwell, marking his return with a set of remastered songs first released in 2006.
Standout tracks from “HITS ALL OVER YOUR FACE [The Peace Bisquit Collection]” include “Rice & Beans,” featuring distorted vocals that mimic playful, high-pitched children’s voices; the urgent, string-driven “Get My Money Back”; “¡Spicy!” with Cherie Lily, pulsing with vibrant Latin rhythms; and “Ice Cream Truck,” a cheeky, unfiltered ode to oral sex.
Other highlights from this synth-driven, honest collection are “Watch My Mouth,” built around ’80s video game sounds that shout Cazwell; “Dance Like You Got Good Credit,” also featuring Cherie Lily, filled with bold, irreverent lyrics; and “I Seen Beyoncé…” featuring Jonny Makeup, a witty satire full of humor and absurdity.
The project’s mission is to disrupt, using humor as a catalyst for truth, truths that, without the veil of laughter, might otherwise be too difficult or risky to express.
“There’s always humor injected into the songs I write. To be honest, I don’t know any other way. Over the years, I’ve recognized dark humor as a survival technique used by the LGBTQ community in order to cope, especially during conservative reigns of power,” the rapper said.
Cazwell has long stood as one of queer hip hop’s most irreverent and essential voices. With more than three decades of experience and collaborations with icons and indie stars from Manila Luzon to Peaches and Amanda Lepore, he has forged a language of his own, where eccentricity and provocation serve as vehicles for deeper messages of identity, pride, and resistance.
The project was produced by Peace Bisquit, the influential Brooklyn-based indie company celebrating 35 years of championing artists like Ultra Naté, Deee-Lite, and Brooklyn Funk Essentials, while also working with global stars including Beyoncé, Sia, and Lady Gaga.
With Bill Coleman as producer and creative partner, “HITS ALL OVER YOUR FACE [The Peace Bisquit Collection]” revisits a vibrant chapter of queer music while reframing it against today’s climate of conservative tension.
“I hadn’t listened to or watched most of these songs and videos from HITS ALL OVER YOUR FACE [The Peace Bisquit Collection] since we originally did them,” Coleman shared. “It’s been quite sobering and exciting to look back on them with a sense of fearlessness, accomplishment, history, and cultural contribution.”
This project distills history into two LPs of 15 tracks each, including three previously unreleased singles. The double format underscores the scope of a sonic journey that spans disco, hip hop, EDM, and Latin rhythms, while unapologetically exposing the cultural and social contradictions of the past two decades.
