Dylan Dunn Takes a Nostalgic Trip with His New Single “80HD”

With a retro-style video evoking the mellow spirit of the ’70s and ’80s, emerging singer-songwriter Dylan Dunn makes a compelling return with his new single “80HD,” a track that layers breezy charm over deeper emotional terrain.

Produced by Adam Castilla of The Colourist at Brick Mansion Recordings, “80HD” offers a preview of Dunn’s upcoming EP, expected later this year.

As in many of his previous songs, Dylan explores his search for inner peace—this time through the lens of mental health. “80HD” reflects on his experience with Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD), a condition that fuels his anxiety and drives him to seek comfort in familiar spaces.

The video, however, offers a lighthearted contrast: it unfolds in the middle of an impromptu birthday party in a suburban backyard, intercut with shots of Dylan’s band performing alone on a deserted beach. Through grainy textures, soft shadows, pastel color grading, gentle focus blurs, and vintage outfits, the visuals mimic the look of a faded 80s VHS tape, like a long-lost home video unearthed decades later.

Dylan Dunn has crafted a sound that blends indie rock and alt-pop, carried by introspective lyrics and marked by a raw yet refined emotional depth. His first single, “Such a Shame,” quickly drew attention for its haunting melancholy and vocals that captured the vulnerability of youth. With follow-ups like “I Want It All” and “Beautiful Disaster,” Dunn showed a gift for transforming personal crises into gentle anthems, perfect for a generation raised on both sincerity and irony.

Unlike many of his peers, his work doesn’t aim to dazzle with theatrics. Instead, it encourages a slow gaze: a delicate guitar line, a melody that unfolds patiently, a lyric that lingers long after the song ends.

“80HD” is quintessentially Dylan Dunn—built on seemingly simple lines that invite quiet reflection amidst the pleasure of music made with intent. It’s another chapter in a growing body of work that says more by saying less, wrapped in warmth, nostalgia, and subtle brilliance.
