Currently taking over LA, but definitely from New York, our good friend and pop star MEL4EVER stopped by to play a little dress-up. We served looks, and she served us tea. We had one of her producer friends and the artist from her latest iconic feature, “SLEAZE ON IT,” DEV, ask her some questions. Here’s how it went.
DEV: What’s your earliest memory of falling in love with music and what song/artist was it?
MEL: Any Man Of Mine- Shania Twain. The guitar riff, and then the drums at the beginning…. girl. She was my first concert. I was completely stunned. It was like a magic show. I was obsessed with her and her outfit changes and the showmanship. Also OFC Britney Spears fucked me right up.
DEV: What’s your favorite thing about being a libra?
MEL: Bitch I’m a triple capricorn. We get such a bad rap because we’re intense or something but I’ve never been intense in my life 🙂
DEV: Hot synth line or hard 808?
MEL: 808 pitched, processed, distorted. I like that shit nasty. One of my all-time faves is Like A G6. *see my new tattoo* but yea its so simple but Cyrano really ate with her.
DEV: Toxic or Baby One More time?
MEL: Toxic.. Like.. that song made me sprout titties. ‘Baby’ is cute and fun and iconic but go play toxic in a room full of gays, no matter what age or generation, it will have the girls AWAKE. It’s just so powerful.
DEV: Sleaze On It – name one of your favorite sleazy things
MEL: Wearing a guy’s hoodie from a one night stand. I will steal a fuckin hoodie. Know that.
DEV: You and AOBeats (who produced Sleaze on it) clearly have a special musical connection. When did yall first meet?
MEL: I met Andrew in 2023 because I wouldn’t stop DMing him. That’s how I usually collab with people. I will DM a bitch. I had been a fan for 4 years before I ever started making music. His bass sounds had this music-festival feel to them and I was addicted to all of the singles he was putting out with the popgirls. He has this amazing ability to adapt to my endless shouting of ideas and switch directions on a dime. We will be working on a bass line and I’ll be like “nope lets do this” and he’ll have it done before I finish the thought. He’s quick and so is my brain, so having someone to fuck around, and be down to do so, was important for me. His knowledge of music goes so deep, he’s encyclopedic, he usually schools me on history and music theory and I love that shit. I could go on but I love him so much.
DEV: Where’s your current musical inspiration coming from?
MEL: I’m getting into old M.I.A. and Diplo again. I remember hearing Galang and
DEV: Cunt or Sickening? And why?
MEL: Cunted. But also if you say sickening with the right attitude, it can be a timeless piece in your vocal wardrobe.
DEV: LA & NY are both special cities in their own ways ofc. What’s one cute way each city has influenced you?
MEL: In LA, I listen a lot in the car, in traffic. So songs that listen well in the car have shifted my interests a bit. But for NYC.. it’s tough, it’s harsh. All of my early music was the same. It’s where I got my amour and started my career, so my music will always be New York inspired. You have to brace yourself to leave your apartment most days, so I would put my headphones on*****~ and use it as a soundtrack to fighting for my life. That’s why I’m so agro probably.
DEV: Best food out Bama? (Cuz youre from Alabama)
MEL: Lolllll, it’s the soul food. Miss Myra’s BBQ my love you must get into it.
DEV: What’s one of your favorite lyrics that you’ve ever written?
MEL: There’s a rant in my new single called ANTI that always makes me laugh. I think it’s the lyrics I enjoy most to date because I’m saying exactly what I’m thinking. It was unplanned and unfiltered and very me lol.
DEV: How much fun did you have working with meeee on Sleaze On It?
MEL: Girl it was a complete dream come true. You have been the soundtrack to so many important moments of my life. To hear my voice then IMMEDIATELY yours on a song is completely mind blowing. You have one of the most incredible voices to put over a track, it’s just like a complete gag.
DEV: What city/country has been your favorite place to perform?
MEL: Montreal and San Diego! The girls are out thereeeeeeee.
DEV: I’ve added ginger shots to my rider bc of you, what have you recently added to your rider that I can copy again?
MEL: Wind fan for your hair! Fizz free Celcius; no bloating just crack.
DEV: Can we make more songs together wtf?!!!
MEL: OH! Mother?? Me???
DEV: What’s your favorite saying or word in Greek?! I love a Greek baddie!!
MEL: My name, Meli! It means ‘honey’. Also Koula, my sister’s name. It means ‘angel ‘and she is.
DEV: I know we’re both obsessed with the Bravo world – name your top 3 bravolebrities
MEL: How much time do you have? I would have to break this down by franchise, by season, and then by official cast members/friends of the cast. But RHONY has my heart. Ramona Singer (she thinks I do not deserve rights but I will watch the shit out of her), Heather Thomson bc she is the black sheep no one appreciates and her smile is insane, and Aviva Drescher. Also Angie Katsanevas and Britani Bateman and Mary Cosby.
DEV: Our video to Sleaze On It is out – it was so much fucking fun to shoot! – What was your favorite part of the day?!
MEL: Honestly, watching you act. I learned a lot from how natural you are in front of the camera. I generally think acting is soooo embarrassing for me, but you made it look cool and effortless so I tried to channel that same energy.
