Izzy Raye’s debut album, “i don’t think i can look at you the same again,” takes you through the process of unlearning, and the loss of innocence that comes with seeing people’s true colors. Produced alongside Chris Botta, frequent collaborator of Shallowhalo and Yaeji, Raye’s album takes you on an emotional journey. Through alt pop breakdowns and sustained synth ballads, this project lets you confront your visceral anger at the world, and then reminds you that there’s always resistance in hope.
Raye’s first single off of the album, “no more,” is a pulsing pop anthem driven by frustration and self discovery. It’s the moment you accept the people in your life for who they truly are and not for who you hoped they’d be, however heartbreaking that may feel. To close out her album roll out, Raye’s final single released on December 3rd, and shares a title with the full project. “i don’t think i can look at you the same again” holds the core message of the album; whether it’s friends, family, society, or even herself, nothing is as it once was. As she’s grown more sure of herself and her own beliefs, the space between her and those who
see life differently has grown undeniable. By the end of the track, the lyrics change from “not sure if I can look at you the same again” to “I don’t think I can look at you the same again,” marking a shift in decisiveness. She can no longer ignore who she’s become, and in turn can no longer ignore the people who don’t fit into that identity.
Through the process of releasing this album, Raye has headlined at iconic New York City venues such as Baby’s All Right and Mercury Lounge. To support the release, she also did a surprise pop up performance on the Williamsburg Bridge with the help of New York City artist Emma Howard and renowned cinematographer Sam Tetro. On social media, videos using Raye’s music have gained over 800 thousand likes. “i don’t think i can look at you the same again” fully releases on January 9th. In the new year, this album will bring all the renewal and transparency that’s been missing in the pop sphere.
