EMJAY likes her pop with some weight behind it. On her third studio album, Pop Pesado, the Guadalajara-born singer-songwriter mixes heavy guitars, club beats, and emotional turbulence across 13 tracks. Moving beyond her Latin trap roots, she embraces the bite of pop-rock and the sweaty pleasure of Y2K dance music.

Opener “arma mortal” sets the pace with a thumping beat and an early-2000s pop-rock rush. “Obsesión” turns attraction into a charged game of seduction, while “Moreno Fantasy” moves from an airy, nostalgic soundscape into a full EDM drop. On “despiértame-despiértame,” rock, pop, and electronics build toward a restless release.

“Xtraparticular” delivers one of the album’s most infectious choruses, carrying the bratty sing-along energy of Avril Lavigne’s “Girlfriend.” Ximena Sariñana joins EMJAY on “atemporal,” where driving riffs push the record’s rock influence further, while “LOBO” brings growling basslines to the dance floor.

The softer moments are equally compelling. “Donde tú,” featuring Alanis Yuki, pairs expressive guitars with an intimate vocal exchange. DannyLux joins “Te vas alejando,” their voices circling a difficult conversation over a driving bassline. “No me olvido” picks up the pace with drum-and-bass momentum before “como cuesta mentir” slips into dreamy vulnerability.

After the Eurodance pulse of “Ángel,” closer “Tirada en el club” lets the night unravel. Muffled production places the party in another room, leaving EMJAY on the bathroom floor while the beat carries on. It’s a striking finish to an album that follows desire through its highs and its aftermath.

With Pop Pesado, EMJAY makes room for loud hooks, tenderness, and messy endings. The rush is irresistible; the comedown gives it weight.
