Star Eyes, formerly Kristen Lynn & The Foxgloves, is celebrated for its seamless blend of blues, rock, and Americana with a nostalgic touch. Their viral videos have earned them a loyal fan base that regularly fills LA venues like The Hotel Café and The Viper Room.
Formed in 2016 when Kristen met violinist Stephen Spies, the band, featuring Emmy and Grammy-recognized musicians, raised $10,000 through Kickstarter to produce their debut album, “Lonely Girl” (2018). Several tracks from that record premiered on PBS’s Musicology. During the 2020 lockdown, the band kept in touch with fans through weekly livestreams. They later transformed personal loss into their emotional album “35,” written in just two days and released in memory of Kristen’s brother.
Their rebrand marks the start of a new chapter, with the release of a full-length album under their new name. Collaborating with legendary producer Bruce Robb at Cherokee Studios, they crafted “Touch the Sky,” a love letter to California, infused with Americana soul and the spirit of the 60s and 70s. The record reflects the courage and honesty needed to embrace your true self and pursue dreams that once felt out of reach.
The band’s name carries a deeply personal meaning. “Star Eyes” was the nickname Kristen’s Nonna gave her as a child, a tender reminder of her roots and the dreams sewn into her bones.
Opening with the soulful “Move On,” Star Eyes immediately draws listeners in with a warm, inviting melody. “Rainy Day” is perfect when you’re feeling low; its uplifting groove brings back the sunshine. The title track, “Touch the Sky,” captures the heart of Americana, with Kristen’s deep, expressive vocals defining the band’s signature sound. “California Dreamin’” pays homage to the Golden State, a place where hope and opportunity intertwine. “Playmate” embraces its playful chaos; it’s messy, spontaneous, and irresistibly fun. Just press play and let yourself drift.
“You Are My Sunshine, But If You Leave Me…” reimagines the classic Norman Blake song with a soulful Star Eyes touch. “All I Have to Do Is Dream” invites listeners to gaze ahead with hope, envisioning brighter days on the horizon. “Last Call at the Sweep” stands out as a heartfelt Americana ballad; powerful, emotional, and unforgettable. The album closes with their take on the timeless Eagles track, “Hotel California,” honoring its legacy while adding their own distinctive warmth.
“Touch the Sky” is a captivating journey from start to finish, offering a cohesive, soul-filled experience steeped in Americana. Even if the genre isn’t your usual choice, this record might win you over. We can only wait to see what comes next for Star Eyes. “Touch the Sky” marks the start of an exciting new era, with much more still ahead.
