LABIT: SOL A DEBUT ALBUM ROOTED IN LOVE, FAMILY, AND FILIPINO-AMERICAN IDENTITY

After much anticipation, Filipino-American artist Labit finally unveils his debut album, “SOL.” This 18-track collection serves as a vessel for his stories, ranging from coming-of-age reflections to late-night confessions, offering something for every listener. The record reveals an artist constantly evolving, driven by a passion for storytelling and a heartfelt dedication to those who shape our lives. He weaves recurring motifs like cars, kitchens, and seasons, binding his personal chapters into a cohesive narrative.

The album opens with “STAY AWHILE,” a perfect introduction. Labit’s crisp, soothing vocals float over a hypnotic rhythm, while subtle synth distortions give the track a dreamlike quality. “PRETTY” leans deeper into pop without losing its experimental edge, blending the lightheartedness of Owl City with the polish of BTS. It’s easy to imagine this one becoming your next obsession.

“CLOUD” and “ALL MY PLANTS ARE DYING” provide a striking contrast, one calm and acoustic, the other energetic with a heartfelt core. The title track, “SOL,” is a gentle tribute to his grandmother, whose name, wisdom, and kindness echo throughout the record.

Two tracks stand out in particular. “PARALLEL” captures the sudden realization of finding love right beside you, paired with a music video where Labit reimagines a classic “singing in the car” scene inside a family Buick LeSabre, a charming nod to his grandmother. “MANGOES AND RICE,” meanwhile, is a heartfelt ode to growing up Filipino-American. Framed as a conversation with his sister, it comes to life through a video that celebrates heritage, family, and community.

“CLEANING OUT THE FRIDGE,” featuring the delicate vocals of Emily Rowed, is one of the album’s emotional peaks, a raw and vulnerable track about breaking down walls and choosing to rebuild. “‘SOL’ is me taking stock of who raised me, what shaped me, and how to move forward with grace. These songs are about finding clarity: in love, in family, and in myself,” Labit explained.

“SOL” holds much more to discover, honoring Labit’s family, Filipino roots, and the importance of cherishing those you love. It’s a gentle reminder that it’s never too late to show someone that you care—so take a moment to hug your grandma, dad, sister, or significant other today!
