INTERVIEW: Frawley Gets Real About Modern Love, Pop Stardom, and Owning Her Narrative

With over 200 million global streams and a viral hit like “Girl Crush” under her belt, Frawley is steadily carving out her space in today’s pop landscape. She’s written for major artists, built a loyal fanbase through social media, and proven she’s more than ready for the spotlight. Her voice, both musically and lyrically, is sharp, honest, and easy to connect with.

Her latest single, “Vanilla,” takes her signature vulnerability and wraps it in a confident, fully pop sound. With bold production and a striking music video that screams main pop girl energy—leather, desert roads, and a Harley—“Vanilla” marks a clear shift in Frawley’s sonic and visual identity. It’s catchy, empowering, and refreshingly self-aware.

We had the chance to sit down with Frawley and talk about the inspiration behind the track, her evolution as an artist, and the unique challenges of dating in the age of apps and algorithms. She also opened up about songwriting for others, what she really thinks about social media, and why supporting women in the industry is more important than ever.

Let’s start with “Vanilla,” your new single. The song explores the desire for more excitement in a relationship. What inspired you to write about this theme?

In the weeks leading up to writing “Vanilla,” I was going through writer’s block. I was traveling a lot and was struggling to find inspiration because I was so busy, but the day I wrote “Vanilla,” my sister dropped me off at the studio, and I told myself to “just let go.” Despite the lyrics being about a guy, the true message is about wanting to care less, have more fun, and enjoy life!

Musically, “Vanilla” has a very distinctive pop sound. How would you describe your stylistic evolution from earlier releases to this track?

Of everything I’ve released so far, “Vanilla” is the most pop, for sure! Everything leading up to this record sounded closer to power ballads, country-pop, and even a mid-tempo R&B record. With “Vanilla,” I wanted to explore different styles and sounds and not box myself in, which is what the song is all about!

Modern dating can be a lot. What message are you hoping resonates with listeners navigating their own romantic adventures?

Because of the disposable nature of dating apps and social media, dating can be tough and sometimes disheartening! My hope is that my listeners know that they’re not alone in this, and I, too, am navigating this weird dating climate! I’m a big believer that there’s someone for everyone, and there will come a day that the song you used to cry because it reminded you of someone will become just another song to you.

Besides your solo work, you’ve collaborated with artists like David J on “Always Be Us.” How do you balance writing for others with creating your own music?

I started songwriting at a very young age. I started working with my publisher, Warner Chappell, when I was 16, and out of the gate, I started writing for other artists in the studio. I love to write for myself, but I’ll never say no to an opportunity to get out of my own head and into someone else’s to help tell THEIR story!

Who would you love to collaborate with in the future?

I’ve been saying this for ten years—I would LOVE to collaborate with Post Malone in any way, shape, or form! Right now, I’m on a huge country kick, as you can tell from my collabs with David J, and I’m a massive fan of Ella Langley and Tucker Wetmore, so I’d love to work with them as well!

The video for “Vanilla” has such a bold, cinematic vibe—motorcycles, leather, desert scenes. How did that visual concept come together, and what were you trying to express with that aesthetic?

The ‘Vanilla’ video is one of my favorite videos to date. When I first met with Gabriel Cheurfa, the director, I gave him a mood board that encompassed how the song makes me feel, and in turn, he took the vision and ran with it! Gabriel killed it, especially bringing forward the idea of black leather, sunglasses, and a vintage Harley; he knew I couldn’t say no!

In recent years, we’ve seen a powerful rise of women in music, especially in pop. As an emerging artist, how do you experience this moment? Do you feel there’s a new kind of energy or sisterhood in the industry?

For sure! I’m a girl’s girl through and through, and I am always happy when there’s a strong woman in the spotlight. Since I began in this industry, it’s always been inspiring to watch friends and even new artists who I haven’t worked with rise to the top!

Looking ahead, what can fans expect after “Vanilla”? Are there any upcoming projects or live shows you can share with us?

My fans will be happy to know that I’m working on putting together a few live shows and plan to release a bunch of new music. My next release is a song that I teased on TikTok that went viral almost two years ago, and I just never dropped the whole track! As for what comes after that, you’ll just have to stay tuned 😉
