The video for “Causing A Commotion”, the Madonna cover from bicoastal indie pop duo TeamMate, consists of a flirty and summery vibe with a lot of the action taking place at a party in a hotel room. The guests are fun but well behaved because, let’s be honest, what party guest leaves the hotel’s lampshade intact by the end of the night?
This cover, which is off of their The Sequel EP, speaks to their history together with the lyric, “Then we can keep our love alive, and when it falls we won’t let it die.” It’s known that bandmates (and exes) Scott Simons and Dani Buncher endured a difficult breakup of their ten year relationship after Buncher’s acknowledgment that she was gay. However, with four years to mend and finding that their bond was unbreakable, they re-established their friendship and began working on music together, forming TeamMate. With the past behind them, they still draw from the personal experiences of their relationship to drive their own infectious songs that are filled with love and heartbreak.
