Cusi Coyllur premieres her new track, “Grow!” Coyllur’s remarkable, relentless vocal range is coupled with a meditation on the danger of shape-shifting for someone else, eventual reckoning, and the ultimate necessity for personal evolution past these relationship pitfalls.
“Grow’ takes place in freshman year of high school after a breakup made me realize I had changed my appearance solely for that guy,” says Coyllur. “At the time I suffered with body image issues and was bullied for being too hairy or too skinny which lead to a bad coping habit – cutting. This song is about claiming my own inner royalty and power. It’s about being comfortable with myself, shaving or not shaving, wearing makeup or not and proudly embracing myself – against society’s beliefs – as a feminine Latinx womxn.”
