While the pandemic has halted many aspects of daily life, it has not halted creativity. As our world continues to socially distance, it is paramount that we do not distance ourselves from new music – especially tracks that feature novel melodic ideas and burgeoning avenues of discovery.

In this Release Radar, Ladygunn explores two weeks of new music from artists around the globe of sundry genres and musical styles.

ANDERSON .PAAK, RICK ROSS – CUT EM IN

Acclaimed singer, songwriter, instrumentalist, and record producer, Anderson .Paak, teams up with the living rap legend that is Rick Ross to create “CUT EM IN.” Both voices tactfully carry the pulsating beat that flows throughout the track, making it an audibly perfect top-chart hit. While Anderson has recently explored the heavy topics of racism and police brutality, this new hit takes a lighter approach.

MILEY CYRUS – Midnight Sky

Miley leaves us agape with her first release of 2020, “Midnight Sky.” Accompanied by a self-directed, 80s-inspired music video, Miley’s release is refreshing, artistic, and strikingly brilliant. With the perfect layering of the track and her vocals, the song flows in perfect harmony, making it a summer hit.

IDK, JID, KENNY MASON, DJ SCHEME – Cereal

IDK collabs with Atlanta artists, JID and Kenny Mason, for this new, sick song. With a beat that bops up and down and side to side, it is inevitable to move upon hearing this track. This collaboration is unlike none other, as the bona fide sounds of each artist run smoothly throughout, with the perfect mix. It will climb to the top.

GUAPDAD 4000, BOOGIE – Hairless Horseman

Two California-natives, Gupapdad 4000 and Boogie, join forces in “Hairless Horseman,” as part of Guapdad’s EP, Platinum Falcon Returns. Tactfully mixed and written, this song’s beat is seductive and sly. Both Guapdad and Boogie prove popular amongst Spillage Village, IDK, and EARTHGANG fans – and with this release, they will ascend in popularity and monthly listeners.

KAASH PAIGE – London

Kaash Paige is a nineteen-year-old Dallas-native who is the up-and-coming artist you need to know. Kaash explains, “Growing up I’ve always been different, and I like to show that side of me in my music.” Her voice is smooth, while her tracks are layered with dynamicality, just like “London,” featuring a heart-wrenching electric guitar. “London” is the first song off of her thirteen-track album, Teenage Fever. She’s young and she’s here for the long run.

BENEE – Snail

While BENEE is the featured indie pop star of 2020, with her sundry hits looped on TikTok and Spotify’s top charts, “Snail” proves to be another hit and measure of her success. This rising star explains that “Snail” serves as her lockdown song, as she was quite fascinated with snails and their isolated nature during quarantine. BENEE is original, authentic, and is producing bouncy, light tracks that will carry us out of this pandemic.

YELLOW DAYS – Getting Closer

Manchester-born artist, George van den Broek, the musical genius behind Yellow Days, has the indie sound of Mac Demarco, the swag of Thundercat, and the jazzy, grounded vocals of today’s greatest indie artists. His music is original, boppy, and perfect to add to any playlist. With several releases under his belt, he is on a trajectory for major fame.

SLOW PULP – Falling Apart

“Falling Apart,” with its peaceful, somber, yet hopeful instrumentation, is one of the releases off of this Chicago-based band’s debut album, Moveys, set for an October release. Slow Pulp, with its underground indie rock flare, is a brilliantly-talented up-and-coming band to keep an eye on. Mixing sounds and influences from the 90s, early 2000s, and the modern age of indie, this band is perfect for any rock, grunge, alternative, pop lover.

SUMMER SALT – Palm Tree on Avenue G

Summer Salt, an indie group based out of Texas, has released a multitude of hits with melancholy, sweet, pure, earthy, and indie sounds. Their songs are for those who are reflective, grounded in reality and truth, and are looking for good music. “Palm Tree on Avenue G,” is another hit for this band.

SISTA PROD, POWFU, ALEC BENJAMIN, RXSEBOY, SARCASTIC SOUNDS – Eyes Blue Like the Atlantic, Pt. 2

“Eyes Blue Like the Atlantic,” originally created by the Italian producer Sista Prod, has amassed rapid acclaim, as one of TikTok’s most popular songs. This remix, featuring songwriting and vocalist legend Alec Benjamin, up-and-coming bedroom pop, indie rapper, Powfu, and lo-fi music originalists, Rxseboy and Sarcastic sounds, is fantastic – you should take a listen.
