NATALIE SHAY IS DEFINITELY ‘NOT YOUR GIRL,’ BUT STILL 100% RELATABLE

Natalie Shay is a version of the classic, modern woman: the one who fits in zero boxes, who’s definition is ever evolving, and who lives up to all and none of your expectations. The ambitious 21-year old is currently watching her music streams climb steadily upward, and she’s already been featured on Spotify’s New Music Friday playlist in nine countries. Casual.

If you were to define the tunes of Natalie Shay you might suggest indie pop, or because she defies genres too, say bubbly with an edge. This or that, Natalie’s unmistakable talent truly shines through her creations like light off the moon.

Fresh off her forthcoming EP, binge her new single ‘Not Your Girl,’ the repeat-worthy song about dating in 2020.

Initially, Shay shared with LadyGunn, the song was written as a response to a past relationship, while taking a more understanding approach instead of just saying “f* you” (like many of us would like to do, it’s okay to admit). In 2020 hindsight, though, the singer admits it also reflects frustrations in the workplace and those ever-pervasive notions of not feeling good enough. In any case, the song’s spirited nature and infectious energy is certainly flexible toward whatever relationship you’re currently buzzing over.

After selling out two headlining gigs in 2019, Shay’s looking forward to her EP NAKED this year, which continues an 80’s soaked trend. The five-track collection details the life, happenings, and relationships of a young musician.

“I love authentic 80s synth and drum sounds, but I also love modern pop vocal lines and effects. And of course lots of guitars. I try to include a flavour of each of those things in my music. It was very important to me that all of the songs had their own unique stamp and vibe but still all fitted and worked together under the same project.”

If you’re in London this spring, lucky you: catch Shay’s EP release show at Camden Assembly on April 16th. Before they sell out, grab your tickets below.
