Coming out today is Kayls first single, Drive Away- a female fronted anthem that gives dream-pop a whole new meaning. Produced by Bambor Leany, the track throws all preconceived notions of femininity out the window while maintaining a dream-like essence filled with fantasies of glitter and late-night joy-rides. While the energy of Drive Away is indeed ethereal, the end result speaks to the audacious nature of Kayls within her audio-artistry.

Kayls devotion to music derives from her grandfather who performed amongst legends such as Sonny and Cher and Dolly Parton. Although her musical style is far from the expected, Kayls journey to this sound walked a similar road paved by many artists before her. While attempting to find her 18-year-old-self within the concrete jungle of New York City, she quickly realized that the hustle and bustle to even get to a recording studio in the city wasn’t going to cut it. She soon stepped foot on her new home-turf upon arrival at LAX, and it was there that her music career immediately ascended in take-off.

Drive Away is packed with pure pop melodies and a message that so many can relate to- exemplifying a seemingly literal ode to “808’s and Heartbreaks.” In today’s society, it is seemingly impossible to stand out amongst the saturation of the music industry and the women trying to break though. Not only does Drive Away stand out in it’s own sonic structure, it also nods to the fact that standing out means embracing all aspects of yourself- encouraging women to marvel at their own personal messes. No longer are women riding in the passenger seat of their own lives, and the confidence Kayls awakens in listeners shall urge us all to take the driver’s seat.
