Latvia-born, Brooklyn-based indie glam rock duo, Astra the 22’s, gives LADYGUNN an exclusive first listen to their sultry, kinetic EP, Paris Love, which officially drops tomorrow, 4.28! The band talks with us about their sound, their inspiration for Paris Love, and their goals for the future.
How would you describe your sound?
Our sound is eccentric, bold, dark, romantic…
Who inspires you musically—both right now and who inspired you or who did you love to listen to growing up?
Inspiration comes from everywhere, all different styles, classic and modern.. Jack White, The White Stripes, The Kills, Dead Weather, David Bowie, Michael Jackson , AC/DC, Prince, Def Leppard , Blondie, Guns’n’ Roses and many more…
How would you describe your aesthetic?
We are two of a kind: Bizarre, crazy, and loud, yet elegant, sweet and honest, also intelligent, introspective and memorable.
Tell us a little about this record— what inspired it, what it was like recording it?
The record was written and recorded in Williamsburg, Brooklyn primarily but did a bit of the vocal tracking in Riga, Latvia; we had been traveling back and forth for months. Dealing with a 7 hour difference, emailing mixes, ideas and voice notes, and somehow turning those ideas into EP that we would be proud of, was challenging, but we did it! The record was autobiographical in a sense, yet it was inspired also by the politics, social change and the world.
What is your goal for the rest of 2017? Something you’d love to do or something you’d love to see happen?
Touring in the US, Europe, and writing/recording music with our band mates and to rock!
If you could see one thing change about the world right now, what would it be?
There are so many crazy things happening in the world that it is hard to wrap the head around about it all. One of the things that has to change is involving innocent people in wars, when all everyone wants to do is live their life in peace and freedom.
