The Fiery Furnaces’ Eleanor Friedberger second solo album, Personal Record,  is out on (June 4th in the US, June 10th in Europe) on Merge Records.  Personal Record is just as beautiful as  Last Summer, her debut album from last year. Every song from Personal Record has a certain nostalgia  of  70’s heartbreak, long inquisitive thoughts about your life,  people who have let you down and for lack of a better word, a personal, feel to it that lets you really connect with the music. With songs like, ‘I Don’t Want To Bother You’, and ‘I’ll Never Be Happy Again, it’s pretty much the perfect soundtrack for those days where you are listening to music with your window open thinking about deep things and feeling the breeze. Seriously, I did that last night and it was like I was in a movie!
Eleanor says, “These lyrics are more inclusive, written for an intimate setting with direct communication in mind: singer, acoustic guitar, audience….The new songs presented themselves as love songs, and that seemed perfect for the intimacy with which I wanted to play them. And they are love songs — hellos and goodbyes, infatuation, pre-occupation, loss — but not simply about romantic love.”
She wrote the songs with musician and novelist Wesley Stace, who she met at a Bob Dylan tribute concert.
‘Stare at the Sun‘ is now available for download at www.eleanorfriedberger.com, and Personal Record is also now available and Itunes.
