While the pandemic has halted many aspects of daily life, it has not halted creativity. As our world continues to socially distance, it is paramount that we do not distance ourselves from new music – especially tracks that feature novel melodic ideas and burgeoning avenues of discovery.

In this Release Radar, Ladygunn explores two weeks of new music from artists of sundry genres and musical styles.

 

BILLIE EILISH- Therefore I Am

 GRAMMY Award-winning artist Billie Eilish has recently released her new single titled ‘Therefore I Am.’ The track accompanies an  official music video also directed by the 18-year-old, and was shot in a deserted Glendale Galleria shopping mall, a place frequently visited by Billie when she was younger.

 

JOYA MOOI – Blossom Carefully EP

Amsterdam based singer Joya Mooi released her second EP into the world some weeks back entitled “Blossom Carefully”. Coming from a multicultural family with both South African and Dutch roots, plays large part of her inspiration during creating music. This new 6 track EP  reflects on themes such as freedom, escapism and identity. “Good Girls” is a stand out track from the EP that expresses the need to rebel against patriarchal norms.

TRIO MINUTES-The Opposite

British girl goup Trio Minutes released their new song “ The Opposite”, a electro-beat heavy track that is perfect for grooving away your troubles. The trio also released a dance visual music video to go along with this single. 

MPHO SEBIN-Lora EP

Mpho Sebina is a singer songwriter who was born and raised in Botswana. She make her return to the scene with her second album ‘Lora’, which mixes neo-seoul elements with a South African flare. 

 

RAKIYAH-Like You

R&B Singer Songwriter Rakiyah or Raki recently released her debut Korean single “Like You”. Raki is a new jersey native that works a rocket scientist by day and writes music by night. “Like You” is one of three songs that she has out and in captures the feelings of the beginning stage of falling in love. The music video for this single is a performance video that features Raki alongside other dancers doing a specialised dance routine.

GRANT – Vertigo

Swedish alt-pop singer GRANT recently released her animated video for “Vertigo,” the title track off her recent EP ‘Vertigo’ . The song took inspiration from the idea of falling in love through luminous tones and shadowy beats. The 3D music video was created by animator Stacie Ant who was able to perfectly capture the essence of the song through her surreal visuals. 

CYN – Uh-Oh 

Artist Cyn makes her a return with her new song, “ Uh Oh ,” one of two original tracks she wrote and recorded for the upcoming Promising Young Woman: Original Motion Picture Soundtrack.
