Rain Phoenix just debuted the morbid, slow paced, piano-driven song called “Time Is the Killer” featuring R.E.M.’s frontman Michael Stipe. The song is therapeutic in many ways of learning how to deal with grief, especially death. “Everybody’s dying to know where we go when we die/everybody’s crying for those who go before their time” mourns Rain Phoenix. The grief ties in with her brother River Phoenix’s death nearly twenty-six years ago, but not only celebrates his life but copes with the closure of River Phoenix’s death. Ladygunn is premiering the visuals for “Time Is Killer” below.
Rain has collaborated with Red Hot Chili Peppers along with R.E.M. and others in her musical career. “I’d love for listeners to take away whatever nourishes them – whatever they need,” says Rain about her recent album River. “In a wider aspirational sense, I hope we can think more about the reality of death during our lives, learn to celebrate the lives of loved ones when they die, and be more attenuated to death as life’s partner… To me, it’s like only seeing half of life if we’re not looking at death. I hope River can both be a source of solace for all of us who grieve and a life-affirming record.”
