“STARCROSSED,” is PEGGY’s, magnus opus. The single carries a dramatic, magical sound reminiscent of a Disney song viewed through a more mature lens. At times, it evokes medieval Celtic music, while her versatile vocals give the track a distinctly modern character. Lydia the Bard costars on the song bringing in a soft, cohesive duet, additional warmth to the song’s nostalgic atmosphere. Together, their voices reinforce the timeless quality of a carefully layered production with a distinctly cinematic feel.
“‘STARCROSSED’ examines the trope of star-crossed lovers,” PEGGY explains. “My character is saying, ‘There’s no point in trying,’ while Lydia’s character believes there’s still hope. It’s a tragic love story, but also one about choosing hope even when the ending feels inevitable.”
The song appears on the recently announced “ONCE UPON A TIME,” an LP spanning more than 14 tracks that PEGGY considers her most ambitious work to date. Throughout the record, she draws on her love of folklore, mythology, and literature, using these traditions to examine contemporary experiences involving identity, love, grief, climate anxiety, artificial intelligence, and the search for meaning.
Produced alongside Magnus Skylstad, known for his work with AURORA, the album expands the universe PEGGY began building in 2021. Figures such as Frankenstein’s monster, Orpheus, Gatsby, and Atlas are reimagined through present-day concerns, allowing each track to function as an individual chapter within a larger storybook.
This universe unfolds on “STARCROSSED” through two female voices that portray the same romantic tragedy from opposing perspectives. One embraces the apparent inevitability of the ending, while the other refuses to relinquish the possibility of a different outcome.
The collaboration also strengthens PEGGY’s vision of “fantasy pop,” a concept that combines alternative pop, literary references, and an immersive visual and musical aesthetic.
“ONCE UPON A TIME” arrives in November via Nettwerk Music Group. The LP will complete a project that reframes familiar myths through contemporary emotions and concerns. Within that world, female voices can inhabit fantasy, challenge predetermined endings, and consider whether hope remains possible even in the face of fate.
