A strong, intense, yet inviting voice, one that isn’t afraid of high notes and channels the best of 2000s pop, paired with a driving percussive beat that sets the pace. That’s “I EARNED IT,” the new single from singer-songwriter Kataria.
Beyond its magnetic energy, the track delivers a chorus that reinforces a clear and direct message of self-worth and recognition of personal achievements, often silenced behind a mask of submission that society has imposed for years, especially on women.
“This is a declaration of truth and ownership,” Kataria says. “It’s an internal victory inspired by heritage and personal resilience.”
Her words gain even more weight when you learn about her story and the perseverance it took to build a career in the music industry through sheer talent, hard work, and deep respect for the craft.
Few journeys begin as unexpectedly as hers. At 16, after losing a local competition, Nisha Kataria stayed behind, singing in the parking lot of the Arizona State Fair. A passerby named Michael Rostami heard her and asked for a demo. A year later, that chance encounter led to an audition in front of Michael Jackson himself in Los Angeles.
It wasn’t long before Kataria began training under MJ’s wing at his legendary Neverland ranch, where she lived, recorded, and learned firsthand in one of the most demanding and privileged environments in the music industry.
After that chapter ended, Kataria spent years touring across Europe, opening for artists like Westlife while developing her own original material. Back in Arizona, a series of frustrating industry encounters followed, including appearances on American Idol and The X Factor that were ultimately edited out of the broadcasts. With time, she stepped away from music entirely, later channeling her energy into other pursuits, until the pull to return became impossible to ignore.
“I EARNED IT” stands as a reflection of that journey, one shaped by discipline, setbacks, rebuilding, and above all, the decision to come back without asking for permission, reclaiming her place, this time on her own terms.
